Possibilities and challenges in computer-assisted surgery (CAS)

von: Dr. Jan Wolff , Dr. Maureen van Eijnatten  (VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam, NL)
Currently spatial information embedded in CT scans is being increasingly used to personalise treatments in medicine by means of computer-assisted surgery (CAS). The field of computer-assisted surgery encompasses virtual surgical planning, 3D printing of personalised constructs such as anatomical mod…

Autonomous and robotic observations of the Arctic sea ice and the associated ecosystem

von: Christian Katlein  (Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, Bremerhaven)
To better observe the ongoing changes in the polar climate- and ice-associated ecosystem, the Alfred-Wegener-Institute is developing new technologies for ice based observations in the framework of the Helmholtz initiative “FRontiers in Arctic marine Monitoring (FRAM)”. This includes the development …

Planning and control of robotic multi-contact interactions: manipulation and locomotion

von: Dr. Máximo A. Roa  (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR), Robotics and Mechatronics Center (RMC))
Interaction of robots with the real world requires making and breaking multiple contacts with the environment, either for robot balancing and locomotion or for grasping and manipulation of objects. Planning and control issues for such interactions will be discussed during the talk. Design tools and …

Talk on Software- and Hardware-Boards

von: Dr. Sirko Straube, Dr. Peter Kampmann  (DFKI GmbH)
This Brown Bag Talk presents the current state of work in the hardware and software boards. The general goal of these two newly formed groups is to increase the development quality and reduce the risk of double developments without blocking cutting edge research. Both disciplines of hardware and s…
