DFKI presents innovative space robots and groundbreaking research at Space Tech Expo Europe 2024

The DFKI Robotics Innovation Center will be represented at Space Tech Expo Europe 2024 in Bremen and will showcase its latest developments in the field of space robotics at two booths. From November 19 to 21, 2024, the researchers will present current research work and cutting-edge technologies at the joint booth of the State of Bremen and the joint booth COOPERANTS joint project – including the Coyote III micro-rover, the versatile SherpaTT walking rover and a model of the "Lunar Night Survival Robot".

Joint booth of the State of Bremen – Hall 5, Stand H25

This year's Space Tech Expo Europe 2024 in the Bremen exhibition halls will once again bring together the most important players in the space industry. At the joint booth of the state of Bremen in hall 5, booth H25, the leading companies and research institutions of the Bremen space industry will present themselves – among them the Robotics Innovation Center of the DFKI, which will present current research with impressive videos of field tests on Teneriffa and Lanzarote. In addition, the scientists will demonstrate the Coyote III micro-rover, which was specially developed for autonomous exploration in extreme terrain such as caves and lava tubes. Equipped with a robotic arm, Coyote III is capable of exploring complex terrain and collecting scientific data.

COOPERANTS joint booth – Hall 6, Stand V54

The Robotics Innovation Center will also be represented as a partner in the COOPERANTS joint project at booth V54 in Hall 6. The COOPERANTS project brings together industrial companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and leading research institutions to create a digital infrastructure for data exchange and the development of innovative applications in the GAIA-X ecosystem. The aim of the project is to promote efficiency and innovation in the aerospace industry and to provide future-oriented intelligent services. As part of the project, DFKI has developed a digital twin for kinematically complex robots such as the SherpaTT walking rover, which enables precise system monitoring, mission planning and interaction. SherpaTT, a versatile walking and driving robot for demanding space missions, will be presented on site.

DFKI researchers will also exhibit a model of the "Lunar Night Survival Robot" concept, which was developed as part of the SAMLER-KI project. This robot concept, which aims to ensure the technical survival of the system on cold and long moonlit nights, was also developed as a digital twin to test AI-assisted navigation in a simulation environment.

Visitors to the Space Tech Expo will have the unique opportunity to speak directly with DFKI experts about the latest advancements in space robotics. To schedule a meeting, please email us at space(at)dfki.de.
