ODiL
Open software-platform for service innovation in an value added network for agriculture
The project ODiL develops an open platform for the integrated, scalable, networked and secure representation, communication and processing of data and services in the context of agricultural enterprises. It links all actors of the agricultural value chain and enables them to selectively and purposefully share services, requests and data in a secure way, while existing machines and information systems can continue to be used.

Project details
Digitalization has changed many aspects in the field of agriculture: normal operations of farms, storage and processing of big volume farm data, control of farm equipment and the rendering of services by agricultural contractors. Data is handled by a multitude of software systems by various suppliers that handle different parts of the value chain: farm management information systems, telemetry systems, logistics systems, software used by contractors and many more. At present, this heterogeneity makes it hard to build optimal value chains and to develop and market novel services. Ownership of business data and the protection of personal data is not always ensured, especially at the interfaces between systems.
ODiL develops an open platform for the integrated, scalable, networked and secure representation, communication and processing of data and services in the context of agricultural enterprises. It links all actors of the agricultural value chain and enables them to selectively and purposefully share services, requests and data in a secure way, while existing machines and information systems can continue to be used.
The development of ODiL encompasses: the platform architecture; components for communication, data storage and interaction; mechanisms for definition and system-wide enforcement of ownership and access rights to data. Cross-sectional topics are the security of personal and valuable data and an acceptance analysis of the system.
The open platform enables the development of value networks with high economic relevancy. ODiL supports this by making the essential platform software available under Open Source licenses, making it accessible not only to project partners, but anyone. This ensures that the platform can be used, extended and distributed beyond the project duration.
The commercial project partners will extend the platform with products that make use of the value networks created with the platform. The open, modular and decentralized architecture enables wide application and manufacturer-independent market penetration of ODiL-based value networks.

ODiL: Open Software Platform for Agriculture
In the ODiL project, a decentralized, open software platform for service innovations in a value network in agriculture is being created. This research and development project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the program "Innovations for tomorrow's production, services and work" (funding code 01FJ16001) and supervised by the Project Management Agency Karlsruhe (PTKA).
