Researchers perform scientific research, write a publication, which is reviewed by peers, and accepted for publication at journals and conferences. Most researchers see this process from their perspective, the authors', while they miss the perspective of the reviewer. Mismatch between author and reviewer expectations can lead to rejection and difficulties in writing, particularly for beginner researchers.
In this talk I will describe how reviewers review papers, and how authors can write better papers by considering the reviewer's perspective, drawn from my experience as a reviewer and author in computer vision and machine learning conferences. I will give tips to write papers that can easily be understood and accepted. I will close the talk with some tips related to doing PhD-level research, supervision, mentoring, and writing scientific publications.
