In nature and humankinds latest past one can see, that being and becoming resilient against hazards is beneficial for individuals as well as populations. One of the major threads to space robots during their missions is physical damage. Through the ongoing development in the area of modularisation, robotic self-reconfiguration enables systems to change their functional or physical structure on a larger scale. So far, reconfiguration is already used for exploiting redundancies in multi-agent systems.
The aim of the presented PhD-topic is to transfer the concept of resilience to robotics and investigate, how reconfiguration can be used to make modular space robots more resilient.
In this talk, the thesis structure and scope will be introduced to the audience, as well as first research results and planned next steps.
