Rehabilitation for post-stroke patients is a very difficult, time-consuming and exhausting task for both the patients and the therapists. Regaining control of the paralyzed upper limb is one of the key elements in classical treatments, since for many activities of daily living two functional upper limbs are mandatory.
In this talk I will outline current therapies, give an overview on devices used in therapies and motivate the need and the possible benefits of robotic aided rehabilitation in terms of active orthotic systems. Further I will present first ideas for an upper limb orthosis, which will be developed within the PhD thesis.
