The project Semantic Product Memory (SemProM) aimed at introducing a RFID-based Digital Product Memory (DPM) for everyday items. In this framework, DFKI-RIC developed two robots (Mr. SemProM and AILA) which use the information obtained from the DPM for the automatic manipulation of heterogenous products. The Digital Product Memory provides the robot with useful handling information as size, weight, lifting points, etc. of the targeted product. More specifically, DFKI-RIC focused on a multimodal approach to provide with autonomy to the mobile manipulator by combining visual information, autonomous planning, and DPM information. The project started on 1st of February 2008 and ended on 31st of January 2011, having as partners BMW, Deutsche Post, 7x4 Pharma, Globus, SAP and Siemens. The talk will summarise the project outcomes as well as the lessons learned during the course of this project.
