SCHEMA - improving man machine interaction and mutual understanding by application of contextual knowledge

Current approaches for intelligent technology are efficient and effective, but usually also highly specific and complex - solutions are generally formed around a specific problem, even more comprehensive approaches for the treatment of multiple tasks or scenarios mostly consist of a variety of specialized modules, which act largely independently.

An appropriate man machine cooperation would require technology to adapt to hardly predictable situations, occurring variances between planned or expected and actual interaction taking place have to be considered.
To address these challenges, the context of the specific situation has to be detected, correctly evaluated and taken into account when choosing an appropriate behavior for the recognized situation and context.

The presentation will present an approach that integrates as a central element the "Schema" theory, which is used in psychology and pedagogy as a model for knowledge acquisition in humans and may represent a promising starting point for solving current problems in the area of context-sensitive human machine interaction.
