In robotics, Qualitative Spatial Reasoning (QSR) is typically known in the context of robot navigation and task planning. Here, I will present an approach that uses methods derived from QSR for spatial information retrieval from structured and unstructured documents. This approach applies a low-level notion of spatial relevance that is closely linked to the geographic location, or geo-reference, of an information object. It uses a semi-qualitative representation of spatial regions in support of a fast and effective evaluation of the relative spatial relevance of information objects with respect to queries of the type concept@location.
