In the first part the talk addresses several topics related to successfully finish a PhD in robotics in general and pin points the specific needs at DFKI-RIC.
We will discuss about the several possible types and stages of a PhD thesis and outline what a contribution in the scientific sense is and techniques how one can approach it. We will outline common myths and clear them in order to then touch upon a bundle of pitfalls and misunderstandings both at the student and at the supervisors part.
We will try to extract some advice and finally end with an encouraging signal!
In the second part we will then go into more details and specifics of the DFKI-RIC PhD track that presents the general stages of the program, gives some ideas of formal and administrative issues and show a typical outline of a thesis before we end with the presentation of a typical PhD retreat.
In the third part of the talk we can discuss any open issues and questions that you might have. It is a good idea to prepare questions upfront.
