Challenge to the moon - Designing a moon rover and landing it on the lunar surface

progress talk

The Part-Time Scientists is a German team participating in the Google Lunar X-Prize, an international challenge which offers a $30 million reward to land a rover on the moon. The privately funded teams have to develop a robotic system as well as actually transfer and land it on the moon. Additionally, a variety of tasks should be achieved at the destination. The team Part-Time Scientists has German origins, however includes members from all over the world including NASA veterans from the Apollo Program. The team's rover Asimov Junior already reached the 3rd generation: Asimov Jr R3. The Part-Time Scientists recently qualified for a $6 million terrestrial milestone. Some of the experiments to win this first part of the prize money will be conducted at the facilities of the DFKI Robotics Innovation Center in Bremen.
During the talk Robert Böhme and his colleagues will present the current state of their systems. Questions from the audience will be answered in a subsequent discussion.
