A joint database for experimental data at RIC? - The NoSQL approach

As we are striving for long term autonomy and lifelong learning, our systems generate terabytes of data. Besides processing this data online when it is generated, storing and analyzing the data later on is of equal importance. Furthermore, sharing the acquired data and the thereupon performed analyzes among colleagues is desirable.

The talk will begin by rising the question if there is interest to build up a joint database for experimental data and analyzes at RIC. Since such a database would have to fulfill challenging requirements as, e.g., scalability and a dynamical database schema, the traditional relational databases might not be the right solution. Hence, the major part of the talk will give an overview of existing NoSQL databases, their major concepts, benefits and drawbacks.

Finally, the relationship to the Recupera project, where data of the exoskeleton as well as physiological data is acquired, will be outlined.
