Exploration of a new position sensitive device for optical positioning adaptable to non-flat surfaces

In this thesis a low cost method for sensing position on non flat surfaces using an optical sensor is to be carried out. Main objective is to overcome the difficulty in customizing Position Sensitive Device (PSD) to non flat surfaces e.g. spherical joints. An incident laser beam is scattered within photoconductive material. The sensing system will be based on photoelectric sensors, which are placed at the suitable positions of the photoconductive material. The changes in position of a laser beam are detected by optical sensors and are used to map onto the surface of a 3D image of the object under test. A successful mapping creates the possibility to use this PSD in environments where semiconductor PSDs are considered inappropriate.
