The DFKI-project aims at developing a flexible, modular and autonomous vehicle.
One of its key feature is the ability to dock to other cars in order to build a road train. This brings advantages such as saving energy and space and recharging low batteries.
A fast and reliable communication architecture is thus needed to allow EO cars to dynamically connect and disconnect from road-trains. The communication takes place before and after the connection to the road train, enabling the exchange of critical informations such as speed.
This thesis focuses on the development and implementation of a communication architecture enabling road trains. The performance of this work relies on deriving the key requirements for communication, investigating and evaluating the existing communication technologies ending by choosing the appropriate one and finally implementing and testing the chosen communication architecture.
