EU funded project smartbot

This BBT presents the EU funded project smartbot. The main goal of the project is to integrate techniques from robotic research into applications in agriculture, shipbuilding and small-scale industrial production. DFKI-RIC is involved in the sub-projects AgroBot (agriculture) and RoboShip (shipbuilding) in cooperation with partners from the Netherlands (both academia and industry).

In the Agrobot sub-project DFKI develops new concepts for the sugar beet harvesting process. This is necessary since current sugar beet harvester have a weight up to 50 tons which often sustainable damages the soil due to soil compaction.

RoboShip contributes to the development, implementation and integration of new maintenance and inspection processes in narrow, difficult-to-access, dirty and complex closed spaces, such as ballast water tanks (BWTs) in ships.
