Overview of Remote Mission Control and In-Field Experiences from the Field Tests in October/November 2016
This talk gives an overview on the preparations and conduction of the field trials in Utah, USA in October and November 2016. This includes the preparation of customs documents (Carnet A.T.A), "behind-the-scenes" infos and conducted experiments as well as public outreach with scientists and local folks in the desert.
The TransTerrA system consisting of SherpaTT, Coyote III and several immobile payloaditems was opeative in the four week long field test.
The field trial campaign was based on a system evaluation on three layers: (i) single system tests concerning locomotion capabilities, (ii) single system tests concerning autonomy and (iii) full system test in a simulated mission scenario. The primary focus was on the execution of the semi-autonomous mission sequence with a satellite connection to Bremen simulating a remote mission control center.
