Load analysis of a Apache webserve on a massive parallel cluster / Rendering-cluster / Smart metering systems
(Abstract)
The applicant will present himself and his realized projects. The three main parts of this presentation will be the following:

The Apache-web-server is one of the most popular web-servers in the world. Almost every Unix and Linux user is able to install and configure their own Apache server. A normal configuration might be useful and enough for the private use but what about if the server has to handle heavy load and thousands of requests per second? Especially if the server is running on a massive parallel cluster-system the load and the request per second could be extremely high.
The first part will discuss a project for an Apache web-server on massive parallel cluster-systems which was realized at the university of applied sciences in Emden (Germany).

Custer- and grid-computing provides a huge amount of CPU-time and computer performance. It´s one of the most important parts of modern research and developing departments. Also the movie industry needs a huge amount of CPU-time and -speed to render scenes of animation movies or special effects. A computer-cluster is able to render more than just one picture at a time, it can use many CPU-cores to minimize the time-need of rendering a whole scene with probably hundreds of pictures.
The second part will discuss a project to set up a cluster to render animation-scenes with more the 20 computers. This project was also realized at the university of applied sciences in Emden (Germany).

IT-based monitoring of analogical gas, water and electricity meters is an easy and effective way of having an overview of the usage for a whole building or just for some apartments. The data can easily be stored and different types of statistics can be used to minimize the usage of energy and reduce the pollution.
The third part of this presentation will discuss a project for monitoring gas, water and electricity usage for buildings. The project was realized in a company called 3Play Networks in Brisbane, Australia.
