Master Thesis/Internship: Software

In order to strengthen our dedicated team in the Robotics Innovation Center (RIC) research department in Bremen we are looking for a

Master Thesis/Internship Software (full-time/part-time, 3 – 9 months)

The Robotics Innovation Center research department, headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Kirchner, develop robot systems that are used for complex tasks on land, under water, in the air, and in space. The recently established underactuated lab at DFKI-RIC is looking for outstanding students to join us in pushing the boundaries of highly dynamic and agile robots. Past internships and master thesis students have presented their work at the Summer of Underactuation events in 2022 and 2023.

Topic:

Recently, legged robots (such as [1] and [2]) have become a prime topic for robotics research. For advancing the research on quadrupeds and bipeds at DFKI, the underactuated lab is looking for a software development intern/thesis student. The tasks during the internship/thesis will be to develop various software tools and components that enable highly dynamic behavior on the quadruped and biped robots being developed at the underactuated lab. These include but are not limited to real-time control systems, ROS2, state-estimation, performance optimization for fast dynamic control, and embedded software development.

Our requirements:

A good background in Mathematics such as Linear Algebra, numerical methods, and optimization. Knowledge on methods on state estimation, control theory, and trajectory optimization is a plus.

Programming: C/C++, Python, Linux API, ROS2, Model based optimization frameworks (e.g. drake, crocoddyl), Embedded Systems such as Raspberry Pi
